Diego Armando Maradona lést í dag sextugur að aldri. Samkvæmt fréttamiðlum í heimalandi hans Argentínu fékk hann hjartaáfall og lést í kjölfarið. Ljóst er að þarna er einn helsti snillingur knattspyrnusögunnar farinn yfir móðuna miklu.
Í kjölfar andlátsins hafa hin ýmsu íþróttafélög, hið ýmsa íþróttafólk ásamt öllum þeim sem hafa áhuga á knattspyrnu vottað Maradona virðingu sína. Hér að neðan má sjá brot af því helsta sem birt var á samfélagsmiðlinum Twitter. Þar eru til að mynda kostulegar sögur, myndbönd, staðreyndir sem og falleg minningarorð í garð eins besta knattspyrnumanns sögunnar.
Enginn leikmaður á HM karla í knattspyrnu hefur komið að jafn mörgum mörkum og Maradona gerði sumarið 1986.
10 - Diego Maradona was involved in 10 goals at the 1986 World Cup (5 goals, 5 assists), no player has been involved in as many goals in a single men's World Cup since.

One of the greatest players.

Michael Cox, penni hjá The Athletic, fór yfir hinn magnaða leik Argentínu og Englands á HM 1986 frá A til Ö. Þá sérstaklega frammistöðu Maradona í leiknum.
An article from July (outside the paywall) on Maradona v England in 1986. There s SO much backstory to his goals, from challenges earlier in the game, to a miss at Wembley six years beforehand. Rewatching it completely changed my view of it all. RIP.https://t.co/MQBt0sAg6v

Reynt að fara yfir af hverju Argentína elskar Maradona jafn mikið og raun ber vitni.

In 1984, he had just come to Naples and found out about a charity match to raise funds for a sick child.
The team said he couldn t do it. The insurer said he wouldn t be insured.

A wild, passionate, complex footballing genius so brilliantly talented he reduced even the best opposing teams to mass quivering wrecks.
Winning the World Cup for Argentina made him a Great.
But what he did at Napoli made him a God. Such sad news. pic.twitter.com/H4R6oVfpmv
RIP Diego Maradona. You'd pay to watch him warm up, let alone play. Played the greatest pass I have seen live, off-balance, right-footed to Caniggia to score against Brazil in Turin at Italia 90. Time after time, Maradona performed magic with the ball. Thoughts with his family.
