Charges Dropped Against Protestors

Earlier this month, Minister of Foreign Affairs Valgerður Sverrisdóttir filed charges against a group of protestors who marched carrying a banner that read: "Drown Valgerður Not Iceland," a reference to the flooding that will occur when the Kárahnjúkar dam project - which Sverrisdóttir has strongly supported - is complete. Sverrisdóttir took this as a threat against her life, but the case was investigated and subsequently dropped by Reykjavík police, who apparently saw no reason to believe Sverrisdóttir's life was threatened. While Sverrisdóttir will not comment on the matter, she did indicate that it could be possible for her to take the case to the state attorney's office. - pfn
