Grímsson receives this award for showing initiative on an international level in the fight against climate change and for Iceland's contribution in developing environmentally friendly energy. Grímsson made a speech at the conference on Iceland's energy research. The Herald Tribune published an article on the President which said that the offered his tiny country as a research model for the rest of the world whilst working at solving the dangers of global warming.
