Students, MPs and former Miss Iceland go topless in celebration of #FreeTheNipple in Iceland

Icelandic women celebrate #FreeTheNipple day today. Students of Icelandic high schools are among those showing support for the cause. Among those are a few brave girls from Kvennaskolinn in Reykjavik who marched downtown today with their tops off.

"We followed discussions on Twitter and elsewhere online and decided to take it one step further," says Embla Huld Þorleifsdottir a student at Kvennaskólinn.

Although the temperature was just above freezing she says they didn't feel cold at all. The sun came out during their walk which helped.

"The response was great. Women came to their windows and greeted us, one of them actually ran out and took off her top. Drivers slowed down and there were many who took pictures."

She adds that out of the lot only one person boo-ed the group of girls.

But it's not only students that set their nipples free today. Members of parliament have also taken part in the revolution.

One of them is Björt Ólafsdóttir, a member of parliament for Björt framtíð, who posted a picture on Twitter with the message: "These are for feeding babies. Shove that up your patriarchy."

Jóhanna María Sigmundsdóttir, the youngest member of parliament in Icelands history, also supports the campaign. On Twitter she asked when basic anatomy had become a sexual thing and something to hide.

Former Miss Iceland Manúela Ósk has also posted a picture of her nipple as well as Margrét Erla Maack, former media personality and circus performer.
