The journey back from Lebanon had been long and strenuous and they were teary eyed at their return. Sigríður Snævarr, head of the Foreign Ministry received the group on behalf of the Icelandic government, who sent a plane to Damascus, Syria to retrieve the families. From there they flew to Copenhagen and back to Iceland.
