I like it when things start as they mean to go on. Last night, Iceland Airwaves did just that. The town was buzzing, all the bars were busy and people seemed to be having fun. And as for the music - the bands I saw were making a very nice noise indeed. One thing you'll notice about Airwaves is that for every band you see, there will be three you miss. That's just the way it is. So choose carefully.

The band, Dikta are a tuneful rock band whose songs you may have heard on the radio. Their show last night was pleasing to the ear and very well-attended - but it seemed to me that perhaps they were lacking a bit of energy. Asking around afterwards, it appears that this was not one of the band's better gigs. In that case, I shall endeavour to go and see Dikta again sometime. Lada Sport, on the other hand were very energetic - very good too. Their heavy bass vibrates the stomach and the strong vocals reverberate around the skull. The use of brass instruments was also a good idea, but unfortunately they couldn't be heard at all.

Tonight's highlights include Mugison, The Klaxons, Seabear and Metric.

Have fun!
