Weather warning: Strong winds expected this evening

Motorists are warned of slick road conditions on Hellisheiði and Þrengslin in South Iceland.

Snow and ice are reported on roads in West Iceland. Hrafnseyrarheiði and Dynjandisheiði mountain roads in the Westfjords are currently impassable due to snow.

Icy patches and snowfall are to be expected in North and East Iceland. Breiðdalsheiði in East Iceland is closed while a blizzard is reported on Öxi road.

Weather forecast for today, Monday: Light wind and some snow showers, but fair in south. Considerable frost. Southeast strong gale or severe gale, 20 to 28 metres per second (45 to 63 mph) is in the forecast in evening and night, first in the southwest and west parts, with snow or sleet. Strong wind gusts, 40 to 50 m/s (89 to 112) near mountains.
