Next year Jón Gnarr, former mayor of Reykjavík, is not going to run for president of Iceland. He announces this in his weekly column My Opinion in Fréttablaðið today.

He says that he made this decision because he does not like the thought of becoming a part of the pitiful and lousy culture of Icelandic politics culture and does not feel like facing the pushy guy again.

"I don't like people being demanding, pushy and rude. I try to avoid people who thinks it is a natural part of daily communication," the former mayor writes. "I don't like the thought of thus becoming a part of the pitiful and lousy culture of Icelandic politics culture."

Jón says that he cannot let his family tolerate that. "I can't make myself and my wife tolerate that. I can't make my son tolerate that," he writes, but he is thankful for the kindness and respect that he has felt.

However, in his weekly column he does not rule out that he will run for president later on.
